Service Charges

To help consumers, legislation states that all funeral homes must provide a General Price List which itemizes all of their related professional service charges . This list must be available at the consumers' request without cost or obligation. Click her to request a current copy of Our General Price List.

It is our sincere intent to be honest, forthwith, and fair with our communities and the families we serve.  We realize that this may be a difficult time in your lives, and this process may be something totally foreign to you.  Language and terms used may create confusion and anxiety to you. We have structured  Our General Price List and our other documentation in a manner which is concise, utilizing consistent common terminology in order to reduce any confusion.  With this in mind I encourage you to ask questions of our Funeral Directors to ease and clarify questions which you may have concerning this price list.

Considerations

Funeral providers across the country utilize several different pricing strategies.   Some funeral homes may inflate the price of their merchandise in order to reduce the charges for their services.  Others may inflate the charges of their services in order to reduce the charges for their merchandise.  Other still may offer package pricing, and the list goes on.  Here at the Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory, we structure our prices on a fair and equitable charge for our services and merchandise.  We do this because other strategies may favor families who chose the traditional services such as burials, (those which require purchase of Caskets, Outer Burial Containers, and other such merchandise) over those who may choose a less traditional approach such as cremation, celebration of life services, memorial services or donations.  In our approach we feel that everyone receives the best possible pricing, and yet contributes equally to our overall cost of doing business. Essentially you are paying for what you want, and receive, not for something that you may not want or desire.

If you are price comparing (which we encourage) our prices with those of other funeral homes, your task becomes even more daunting because of the issues raised in the preceding paragraph.  My suggestion to you is to compare the bottom dollar price, making sure that you are receiving the same or similar services and merchandise desired.

To help you understand funeral costs we have prepared an outline of the categories that make up a funeral account. There are basically four sections that make up a funeral account: casket & merchandise selections, professional service charges, cash disbursements and taxes on applicable items.

Professional Services Charges

This section is specific to the services the family selects. It may include non declinable charges such as minimum services of the funeral director and staff.  It will also include charges specific to the type of service which you select such as but not limited to; embalming, cremation, visitation, funeral or memorial services, use of facilities, and use of automotive equipment to list a few.

Casket & Merchandise Selections

This section is specific to the casket that a family selects. All of our caskets and merchandise is priced separately - meaning the price you see for the casket is for the casket itself with no other items included. This can often become confusing to families. Some of the other types of merchandise you might find in these section of the funeral account are: burial vaults, cremation urns, and upgraded stationary packages. Again, each is itemized based on your selection and a total is itemized under the "Casket & Merchandise Selections." As always, you are free to purchase or acquire these items from any other funeral home or other source. Receiving funeral homes cannot charge any handling or administration fees when a casket is purchased elsewhere.

Cash Disbursements

Cash disbursements are just as they imply: to aid the families we serve, we will cover third party expenses and place them on our account as a convenience until the estate is understood.

Strict legislation ensures that these items are not marked up and only the exact "cost" is included on the funeral account. Typical cash disbursements might include:

  • Newspaper Notices
  • Clergy Honorariums
  • Cemetery Charges
  • Coroner's Cremation Certificates
  • Reception Catering
